KTA 5: Researching sources about locations and studio set up for NMNTV

What is a primary method- A primary method is where you do all the research yourself.

What is a secondary method-A secondary method is where you get your information from a source that already exist.

Primary Research methods for NMNTV.

In order to find out what locations and what studios setups are used in music television channels we must start to research by watching multiple types of music television channels for example MTV and BBC we can then analyse these videos to find locations to then film the advantage of this is that it is our own work and we can make a detailed idea of what location we want to film in but a disadvantage is that it is our own bias. Another primary method we can use is a survey we can give the public the survey and question to where they think we should film a music tv channel we can also ask them their favourite places to visit during their holiday so when we are in the NMNTV studio we can use a green screen to show that place for example Hawii An advantage of this method is that it would be straight from the source so it won't be bias as their will be multiple responses, however a disadvantage is that it is not a detailed information as the question given is short. Another disadvantage is that people might not do the survey they or not complete even if we send it via email. Another primary method is an interview we can set an interview with another music tv producer and ask them various questions as they have already got a set location an example is the producer of MTV. An advantage is that as they have already been through the problem of looking for a location so will be able to give good advice, however a disadvantage is that they might give a bad location as they might see us as competitor. Another disadvantage is that the answer may be biased as the producer isn't give a lot of time to think as he being put on the spot.

Secondary Research methods for NMNTV.

For secondary research methods you could look at music magazines for example XXL or Fader, You look at the background of the magazine to get ideas or read the little subtext box to find out the location and the best places for news articles. An advantage of this is that we get good locations because large magazine corporations have used these places however a disadvantage of this method is that the magazines we might read could be old so are not the best places to film in. Another secondary research method we could use are news reports as we could look at the background information and try and gather evidence to see which place that the news report is based in. An advantage of this is that we can use trending locations however a disadvantage is that the news channel could have an older target audience so the background we take may not appeal to a younger audience Another secondary research method we could use is a book about MTV, this book could be used as a source of research as well. An advantage is that it is detailed description about MTV produced its music tv shows and news which would help understand how they became successful. A disadvantage would be that it was made 9 years ago and there have many technological advancements throughout this decade so this book it quiet dated. Another book that could be used to help for studio production is the 'The TV Studio Production Handbook' This would help as it gives you the basics of studio production. An advantage of this book is that it was published in 2016 meaning that it is quite new. A disadvantage however is that the book could be biased towards a certain production method.

Lots of location in music TV channels are quiet tropical and fun for example on MTV news there are many tropical clips for example Ibiza, there are also very urbanised areas for example New York city. Many of the studio backgrounds have a bright light source and it becomes blurry which gives a really cool effect. another good urbanised location to use would be london as you can use many landmark that exist there. the relation between london and NYC are very similar as you can have famous landmarks which would give a good design. Another good location would be UK countryside as the countryside is very calming for example suffolk. It would appeal to an older audience which is a disadvantage as mainly young people watch music television.

1. Ibiza was shown as a location on the show Ex on the beach which is a show on MTV. This would be a great location as it is full of parties and music festivals. It is also a very beautiful

2. Another location that could be used London as its in England which is where NMNTV is based plus lots of events happen in London. Many music channels such as the BBC and The Box are based in London.

3. Another possible location would be hollywood or LA, my reasoning is that there are lots of celebrities in these regions and also we could get news on different events happening in LA e.g the Grammys, One example of this would be a clip from MTV news about Travis Scott and his mansion in LA.

4. New York City has many advantages as more new styles of music such as drill are appearing there, this would make new york a hot spot for music news and for the appearance of new artists.

5. Country sides such as suffolk is quiet and very beautiful which would be a great background for the TV channel.
